We were all taken by surprise when Paul Hurst from Key103 turned up a couple of weeks ago in our assembly hall and started explaining to us all about a new Key103 project being taken place in the next week. He gave us all the opportunity to take place in the project but only 12 people would be a part of the final production. The project, ‘Key2 radio’ is an opportunity of a lifetime for young aspiring students that are interested in the media. From there people who were inspired by the chance took a job application form and had it in pristine condition Monday morning on Mr Woolham’s desk. The next step was fighting for a place in the final 12 on the media bus which came to Stretford high on the 9th of June. On the bus a presentation was put on by Rob from Key103 who told us all the elements of the role we would have. After that we all had to show of our skills by making PowerPoint’s and word documents he which could possibly send us off to Key103. After presenting our work Rob made the decision of who would be joining him at the studio. All the people who were chosen were ecstatic but there was no time to be jumping around we were off to Key103 the following Tuesday.

We arrived in the morning, probably not as prepared as we should’ve been, there was so much to see and we still weren’t over the fact that we were ACTUALLY in Key103. After the tour we were taken into our groups and got onto work straight away it was all so exciting. The creative and marketing groups were packed up with things to do, they firstly were introduced to the roles and the marketing team had to create a PowerPoint which focused on all the elements of a radio show. The creative team had to get to work on the name and the strapline of the show 2 very important things that had to get done. After finding our name BOS radio and the strapline Chase the bass, the creative and marketing teams took their ideas to the presenting and news teams to ask their opinion, they loved it and agreed straight away. After that they had the task of choosing the music policy, discussing what subjects the presenters will be talking about and finding ways to sell the station to people, they came up with loads of ideas and the teams brains were on fire. Whilst all this was happening the presenting team were busy too researching up and coming events, practising scripts in the studio, making music-skill-testing competitions and just generally having a laugh.

In the future we would like to take the school radio to progress and we would like younger students for example year 7‘s to be trained so when we leave school they can carry the radio station when we leave and in 4 – 5 years it will be stronger and better.
